Urgent appeal to help us continue providing Electricity for the Sachibondu community
The river running along the border of Sachibondu was dammed almost 40 years ago, which created, not only a beautiful lake but made it possible to put in a hydro electric scheme, bringing 24 hour electricity to the missionaries and the local people working at Sachibondu.
In the past 15 years or so, the number of residents living at Sachibondu has tripled, mostly with medical staff working at the clinic and the teachers working at the primary school. This has put much more of a strain on the turbine which generates the electricity. Power at best is usually very low.
In June this year, one side of the concrete channel that carries water from the dam to the turbine, disintegrated, leaving a huge gap that had to be urgently fixed with a temporary measure, in order to keep the supply of electricity.
We have decided that a new concrete channel should be constructed, rather than trying any more to the repair the old one, as repairing the old one would be dangerous and life threatening to those working to repair it.
This new channel urgently needs to be constructed, as the rainy season is about to start, and the levels of water will rise quickly, even with the first thunderstorms. Over 100 households at Sachibondu would be affected by the loss of electricity if this new channel is not constructed.
We are looking to raise £2500 to cover the cost of all the materials and labour to complete the new channel.
Please consider helping financially?? Any donation, no matter the size will be a huge help to reaching our goal.
You can donate by clicking the ‘Donate’ button. Please just add a note to clarify that your gift is for the construction of the new water channel.
