Heavy Rains at Sachibondu
We are in the fifth month of the rainy season here at Sachibondu and boy is it wet!! We have had some BIG storms here this past couple of weeks and the rain has been daily and heavy.
Aside from branches coming down across the site, roads and walkways being a muddy mess, the big indicator of the heavy rains is the Lake and river. It has risen considerably, and so much so, that the new pedestrian bridge that was built a couple of years ago, is under water.
This bridge is a lifeline to the villages living on the other side of the river, their children go to school at Sachibondu and the families access medical and maternity care here at Sach. Without the bridge, they get stranded.
Thankfully, the bridge is holding well and is very strong, and with the sturdy handrail, members of the community are able to still cross over. Check out the contrast in photos below.
We have approximately 6 weeks left of the rainy season. We pray the rains will not be too heavy in the coming weeks.
